Xenophobic attacks: APC wants FG to nationalise MTN, Multichoice, other South African businesses

Image
The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, on Thursday, came hard on the South African Government, accusing it of backing the wave of xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other Africans in the rainbow nation, and asked the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to take steps to immediately nationalise telecommunications giant, MTN. The party which equally advocated stringent measures against Multichoice (DSTV), Standard Chartered Bank and Stanbic Bank as well as other South African business interests in Nigeria, declared that Africa can no longer be the centerpiece of Nigeria's foreign policy. National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomole stated the position of the party late Thursday evening at the end of a meeting of the National Working Committee NWC of the party in Abuja. Oshiomole who was flanked by members of the NWC said the party has now given the needed support base for President Buhari to go on the offensive in order to sound a note of warning to other Af...

South Africa Closes Embassy in Nigeria

Image
South Africa has temporarily closed its embassy in Nigeria following the ongoing xenophobic crisis, Foreign Affairs Minister Naledi Pandor told Reuters. She said South Africa was in constant contact with Nigerian authorities to try to restore calm, adding that there is no provision in local law for compensation for damage caused in the attacks. “There is an Afrophobia we are sensing that exists, there is resentment and we need to address that,” Pandor said on the sidelines of a continental economic conference in Cape Town. Just as Nigeria is the most populated country in Africa, the country’s smartphone ecosystem is also one of the biggest in Africa. HOW SCHOOLS ARE KILLING CREATIVITY

Image
SCHOOLING IS GOOD BUT BE WISE I speak about education from an unflattering point of view — maybe because it is destroying our fascinating, curious minds. I don’t claim to be an expert in education. I am still a student and I speak for myself. I believe that students should have a voice in the education system today, because mainly they are the ones who are being educated. The control of education should be in the hands of students. They should be centered first and foremost. Many people have written about ways to change education, but what good has it done if we are leaving out the voice of the students? Years continue to pass, some students graduate, some fail out, some drop out and nothing really changes. The education system reminds me of a dictator that is unwilling to step down. I’m aware that no education system is perfect, and I believe they are all the same across the world. We memorize, study for the test and forget, only to know 10 years later what an atroci...
